Drunken Mayor Faces Political Woes
Art Madrid, the mayor of La Mesa, California, may lose his job after an incident last week where he was found drunk and lying near a pool of vomit. During a City Council meeting, Madrid tried to appease an audience of angry constituents who were calling for his resignation—with one resident threatening to launch a recall campaign against him. The mayor said that the incident was "unfortunate" and admitted that he was binge drinking on the tenth anniversary of his teenage son's untimely death from cancer. A special City Council meeting is scheduled today to further discuss the mayor's fate.
