Russia's Monument to the Enema

An unusual monument to that notorious medical procedure—the enema—has been erected in a resort town in southern Russia. The one and a half metre-high sculpture to the enema is made of bronze, weighs 400 kilogrammes and cost one million roubles. While it is a procedure many people would rather not talk about, the southern Russian city of Zheleznovodsk is celebrating it. The Caucasus Mountains region is known for dozens of spas where enemas with water from mineral springs are routinely administered to treat digestive and other complaints.

For a New Source of Energy, Just Say 'Cheese'

Some cheese-making French monks have come up with an innovative way to reduce their electricity bills. The abbey in the Alpine region of Savoie uses byproducts of milk to create methane—enough to save nearly 7,000 euros each year.

Backstab Between Friends

After two friends had a drunken game of Russian roulette that involved a knife, 53-year-old Yuri Laylin staggered home not realizing there was a dagger in his back. In fact, it was not until his wife noticed it while he was in bed that he realized that his friend actually did hit the bull's eye. Laylin was rushed to the hospital and doctors said that although his friend plunged a knife four inches into his back, he was sufficiently drunk enough to be anesthetized and free from any pain.

Drinking Buddy Wanted

Some people will go to great lengths to get rid of their elderly parents—even pay an hourly salary. In order to find some drinking buddies for his widowed father, Mike Hammond put an ad in the local post office offering £7 an hour for the job. After a barrage of replies and interviews, two men were hired and will spend a few nights a week drinking with the 88-year-old man—leaving Hammond off the hook to do other things while his father has male bonding time with his new friends.

The Subtle Faced Lie

So, you think you're a good liar? According to researchers at Dalhousie University, no matter how duplicitous you may be, there are subtle tell-tale signs on your face—like smirking or rapid blinking—that will give you away.

To illustrate this, researchers asked subjects to fake their emotions while viewing photographs designed to make them feel happy, fearful, or disgusted. Another set of subjects were asked to view the other participants and determine what their true emotions were. The results showed that no matter how much the first participants tried to hide their real feelings, the second group was still able to pick up on brief expressions that revealed what was really on their minds.

Study lead Stephen Porter said he hopes his work will help police officers more readily detect lying.

The Best Prize Ever

An Australian men's magazine is giving away a chance for one lucky reader to "win back their freedom." That's right, the magazine is giving away a divorce. But this prize is not just a day in divorce court—in addition to a lawyer and court costs, the divorce package also includes a three tiered divorce cake, a plasma TV, a Playstation 3, and a divorce party filled with beautiful female guests.

"Our lucky winner will get to escape and start a new whole new life. We'll help him at every stage—from buying a new plasma screen and throwing him a party, to finding him a new girlfriend," said Zoo magazine editor Paul Merrill.

And this is not the first random act of kindness the magazine has performed: It also gave away what it called "the most romantic gift of all"—breast implants for the reader whose girlfriend needed them the most.

This Stoled House

A Russian thief has taken home invasions to a whole new level—by dismantling his vacationing neighbor's home brick by brick. When fifty-year-old Yuri Konstantinov returned, he said thieves had taken everything and the kitchen sink—not to mention bricks and window frames. Apparently, this kind of robbery is not unusual and local police say robbers will take apart someone's home for construction materials.

Spend It Your Way

Burger King is going to have it their way with customers' wallets when they introduce the world's most expensive hamburger to England. For £85, customers can have a cheeseburger made from Japanese Kobe beef, foie gras, and a rare blue cheese. Although it's unlikely to outsell the Whopper, marketing experts believe the pricey burger is actually a good way to differentiate Burger King from its competition—particularly McDonald's—by fostering the idea that they have higher quality products.

Unholy Rite

Russian strip club Studio 74 managed to get a seal of approval from above when a priest came to bless the establishment. But the priest who performed the sacred rite, Father Nickolai, said that the managers of Studio 74 duped him into giving the blessing by telling him it was actually a ballet school. However, despite the unholy lie, the strip club's spokeswoman reported that since the blessing, the club is getting more business.

Farmer Swaps a Wife

Frustrated with his barren third wife, Bulgarian farmer Stoil Panayotov traded her for a female that he knew was more fertile—an eight-year-old goat. This 54-year-old knows the art of the deal and said that when his lonely friend mentioned that he liked the farmer's wife, the two men decided that they had an even trade. "The goat has given birth to three kids and my wife to none," said Panayotov about the arrangement.
